Dedicated Commercial Project Manager

The community can designate a commercial project manager, similar to a Main Street Manager, who ensures small businesses have access to the resources they need and serves as a liaison for developers to preserve the desired small business mix. This project manager reviews the asset inventory to find opportunities for synergies and to bring resources together. For example, if the businesses are in need of improved security or lighting, the project manager may advocate for streetscape projects. If workforce identification or training is a concern, the project manager may organize a job fair. The project manager may also aggregate multiple business training needs and place a request with the state or regional workforce training organizations. Depending on the ability to fill this role in a dedicated capacity, the community project manager may also be an on-staff planner, economic development professional or other employee with the ability to fill the need.
