Property Improvement Grants

As part of a Business Improvement District, Community Improvement District, or identified corridor, localities can administer a matching façade or sign grant or loan program.

  • Localities may identify local college or university programs or design professionals to provide design assistance.

  • Funding may be sourced from federal, state, or local economic development grants, such as Community Development Block Grant (CDBG).

  • Localities establish geographic targets consistent with funding sources and determine funding maximums based upon budgetary constraints.

    • Funding may be based upon square footage of façade or sign

    • Funding may be provided as a low interest loan, forgivable loan, or grant

    • Local businesses can apply for the matching funds as the property owner or with the property owner’s permission

    • Eligibility requirements should include business types and activities that are /are not eligible

  • Property clean-up grants may also be considered to address one-time initiatives to rid properties of trash and blight or to improve lighting or landscaping to improve the appearance of the property.
